Beginnings
Edward J. Ackman founded Advantage Resources, Inc. and served as the Company’s President from 1976 until his death in 2019. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1955, with a degree in geology, and worked his entire adult life as an Oil and Gas Geologist.
Mr. Ackman discovered more than 20 important oil fields, including the 10 million barrel “Ackman Field” in Red Willow, Nebraska. He was successful in many of his oil and gas exploration efforts, including finding oil and gas on two continents, North and South America all while heading the Company Advantage Resources, Inc. in Denver.
In 1994, he received the IPAMS prestigious “Wildcatter of the Year” award which is presented to prominent leaders in the western oil and natural gas industry whose entrepreneurial spirit and exploratory work have contributed significantly to America’s energy security. The award historically honors role models in the western community who have contributed significantly to the betterment of society.
Mr. Ackman was an active member in the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. And in 2004 he was inducted into the Rocky Mountain Oil and Gas Hall of Fame. Mr. Ackman was passionate about the energy industry and an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In 2015 Brian Ackman purchased the ownership positions of his father and brother and is the sole owner.
